The balance of good hand washing habits versus becoming over-zealous and causing harm is a subject worth discussing.

Washing hands too many times or using harsh soaps or hot water can cause cracks in the skin, which can be entry point of bacteria and viruses. It can also lead to nail damage or nail disease.

Irritant Contact Dermatitis is a kind of rash that anyone exposed to harsh conditions can get ( it is different than Allergic Contact Dermatitis that only people with allergies get).

Teach kids good hand washing habits but also keep a watchful eye on their little hands. Always, use 𝗹𝘂𝗸𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 and 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗮𝗽. Get in habit of 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 with a light moisturizer after washing hands.

Favorite brands are @officialvanicream @cetaphil @cerave and @dove (Dove bar soap not the liquid one).

✅ Damp dry and moisturize immediately.

✅ See a dermatologist if you can’t manage dry skin on your own or if you have red, flaky, itchy skin. In that case you don’t just have dry skin, you have a skin disease.
