One of the most notorious places for scarring after skin surgery? Chest area, specially in women.
So when this teenager asked me to remove this mole, I tried really hard to convince her not to do it. But as many conservatives with this age group goes:

So when I did this procedure, instead of a regular football shaped๐excision which wouldโve left her with a scar three times as long as the original mole, I decided to do a purse string closure ๐ : This is when you cut the lesion in a circular fashion, and you put in a purse string suture and pull on it to create a small round scar (see next slide). This results in a scar smaller than the original mole itself ๐คฉ
I was very happy with the results at her one week follow up. The scar will continue to fade in color over months and look better. So this California girl can continue to wear her itty bitty bikini ๐

The balance of good hand washing habits versus becoming over-zealous and causing harm is a subject worth discussing.
Washing hands too many times or using harsh soaps or hot water can cause cracks in the skin, which can be entry point of bacteria and viruses. It can also lead to nail damage or nail disease.
Irritant Contact Dermatitis is a kind of rash that anyone exposed to harsh conditions can get ( it is different than Allergic Contact Dermatitis that only people with allergies get).
Teach kids good hand washing habits but also keep a watchful eye on their little hands. Always, use ๐น๐๐ธ๐ฒ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐บ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ and ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐๐น๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฝ. Get in habit of ๐บ๐ผ๐ถ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด with a light moisturizer after washing hands.
Favorite brands are @officialvanicream @cetaphil @cerave and @dove (Dove bar soap not the liquid one).
